Position Summary
The Lead Coalition Organizer is a senior-level organizer responsible for supporting and strengthening The Alliance’s ecosystem of community-led coalitions. This position provides leadership for coalition campaign planning and strategy implementation, directly mentors and supports newer coalition organizers, and ensures strong alignment between coalition work and The Alliance’s mission of racial, economic, health, and environmental justice.
The Lead Coalition Organizer will also provide direct coalition support to the Coalition for Clean Transportation, ensuring that strategies prioritize and are accountable to low-wealth communities and communities of color most impacted by pollution, access to clean mobility options, and underinvestment.

Key Responsibilities
Coalition Strategy & Campaign Planning
● Work collaboratively with coalition organizers to support their development and refinement of campaign plans and strategies that advance each coalition’s goals
● Provide thought partnership, political analysis, and tactical guidance for campaign decision-making and strategies across multiple issue areas (housing, anti-displacement, small business, clean transportation)
● Ensure alignment between coalition campaigns and broader organizational vision, theory of change, and priorities.
Mentorship & Professional Development
● Mentor and coach new and early-career coalition organizers to build skills in power-building, facilitation, campaign design, leadership development, and systems change
● In collaboration with other staff, co-create and lead internal trainings and peer learning opportunities for organizing staff
● Foster a culture of collaborative learning, mutual accountability, and political grounding within the organizing team
● Support onboarding and integration of new coalition organizers Coalition for Clean Transportation
● Provide coalition support to Coalition for Clean Transportation, including facilitation, strategy development, and stakeholder engagement
● Collaborate with coalition members to advance community-driven equity, climate justice, health, and mobility access goals
● Build and maintain relationships with public agency staff, elected officials, and community partners to influence climate policy and funding
Internal Collaboration & Administrative Support
● Participate in cross-coalition planning and learning to strengthen collective strategy
● Contribute to documentation, evaluation, and storytelling that lifts up coalition victories and lessons – especially for reports to funders
● Support the operations coordinator in ensuring coalition budgets and organizer time management is properly tracked
● Conduct annual reviews with coalition organizers, documenting areas of strengths, strategies for improvement and goals
Qualifications
Required
● At least 5 years of organizing or campaign experience, including leadership in community-based or coalition settings
● Deep understanding of racial, economic, health, and environmental justice principles and coalition-building strategies
● Demonstrated ability to support, mentor, and develop (coalition) organizers
● Experience with coalition building, community leadership development, policy change campaigns, and facilitation across organizations
● Strong strategic thinking and political analysis
● Highly organized with the ability to document projects, track expenses, and meet deadlines.
● Excellent relationship-building, collaboration, and communication skills
● 3 years experience managing and supervising multiple staff
Preferred
● Prior experience in clean transportation, housing justice, or anti-displacement work
● Lived experience with racial and social justice issues
● Experience supporting staff development or leading organizing trainings
● Bilingual or multilingual skills
Salary and Benefits
Salary is commensurate with experience, and The Alliance offers a competitive benefits package. This is a full-time exempt position. Salary range starts at $70,000.
