Alliance Seeks Communications Manager
The Alliance is seeking a full-time Communications Manager. Join us in our mission to eliminate systems of oppression and advance collective liberation across the Twin Cities region.

The Alliance is dedicated to dismantling systemic barriers through coalition-building and advocacy, to advance racial justice throughout the Twin Cities region. Our mission is to build power across the intersections of geography, race, culture, and issues to eliminate systems of oppression and advance our collective liberation. We envision a vibrant region where growth and development decisions, policies, practices, and investments are centered in the needs and expertise of Low-Wealth people and Black, Indigenous, Immigrant, and People of Color, where historical harms are addressed, and where our healing, belonging, and prosperity are prioritized in decisions about our current and future communities.
Position Overview
The Alliance is seeking a dedicated Communications Manager to join our team. This role will support our mission by facilitating collaborative work, advancing our organizational goals, and shaping and deploying the overall narrative of our campaigns through multiple communication strategies. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of racial equity, systemic racism, and race-class narrative.
- Location: Twin Cities region
- Work format: Hybrid – Tuesdays & Thursdays, in office.
- Salary: 40 hours per week – $50,000-$60,000
- Benefits: Medical, dental, vision paid by The Alliance for full-time staff, plus paid vacation, sick time, and holidays.
Job Responsibilities:
Communications and Content Creation (45%):
- Create and distribute The Link (our bi-weekly e-newsletter), annual report, annual fundraising appeals, and issue reports.
- Update and maintain the organization’s website in WordPress.
- Design and layout reports and other materials (using InDesign preferably).
- Build a photo gallery and manage visual content.
- Develop and post content for social media platforms
- Evaluate communications strategies with biannual quantitative analysis.
Campaign and Event Support (45%):
- Support organizing work with narrative framing and clarity.
- In partnership with the Alliance team, organize regular Actualizing Equity roundtables, to advance regional equity.
- Partner with the Alliance team to develop compelling messages and stories that align with current projects and community initiatives.
- In partnership with Alliance team, write and edit press releases, op-eds, and event recaps
Administrative and Database Management (5%):
- Maintain the organization’s database systems (ie Kindful & MailChimp).
- Prepare supportive communications and materials for organizational meetings and events .
- Assist with other emerging programmatic and administrative tasks as needed.
Keeping up-to-date with the landscape (5%):
- Attend community events and meetings, coordinate interviews with elected officials and community partners and staff, as needed.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community members and local media.
Skills and Qualifications
While no one candidate will possess all of the skills & qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will demonstrate many of the following abilities, attributes, and experiences.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to break down complex issues and tailor messages to diverse communities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with community members and local media.
- Knowledge of what makes for compelling press releases and op-eds.
- Proven ability to translate community issues and concerns into accessible written materials and strategic narratives.
- Strong understanding of racial equity and systemic racism. Additional knowledge of Race-Class Narrative, a plus.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in WordPress, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace. Adobe InDesign, a plus.
- Some knowledge of social media platforms and best practices for engagement and outreach.
- Ability to design and layout digital and printed materials.
- Experience with database management and website (WordPress) maintenance.

Experience:
- 3-5 years of experience in communications or journalism preferred.
- Proven ability to synthesize diverse ideas into effective narratives.
- Experience receiving and integrating input from multiple people into communication products
- Experience in communications that highlight opportunities for public sector decision-making systems to improve.
