Development should never come at the cost of community; it should begin with it.
We’re bringing together voices from Detroit to North Minneapolis for a timely panel on what happens when community power is written into law. From Detroit’s groundbreaking Community Benefits Ordinance to local efforts like Northside Forward, we’ll explore how cities can grow without displacing the people who built them.
Learn how Detroit organizers and legal advocates worked together to shape, pass, and implement the city’s groundbreaking Community Benefits Ordinance—the first of its kind in a major U.S. city—where large development projects, in collaboration with local community advisories, must invest in the communities in which they are building. So far the community benefits ordinance has established commitments for hundreds of millions of dollars in community benefits for Detroiters.
Hosted by Busiswe Lebidane- Policy Entrepreneurial Fellow, The Forum + joo hee pomplun- Executive Director of The Alliance, this conversation is about designing futures rooted in equity, belonging, and shared prosperity.
