My first week at the Alliance… again!

With the departure of Russ Adams, Joo Hee Pomplun stepped into the role of Executive Director at the Alliance on October 25.

While I’ve worked with the Alliance for many years, in several roles, this is my first week, again.

My first week as Executive Director.

I remember my intrigue back in 2012 when I was the Director of Policy and Advocacy at the Asian Economic Development Association and I had the opportunity to be AEDA’s member representative to the Alliance. I was fascinated by the coalition work to advance regional equity — across cultures, issues and geographies. It didn’t take long for that fascination to lead me onto the Alliance board and then to a staff position.

Now, I couldn’t be more excited to step into leadership and help set and guide our course for the future.

Building on the many wins in our first 25 years, I look forward to the Alliance’s evolution as a people of color-led organization and I’m eager to deepen our accountability to our community-based members and partners to set an ambitious trajectory for our next 25 years. Together, I know we can continue to reframe narratives about regional investments and, through our collective power, make fundamental and systemic changes to ensure equitable housing, health and healing, transportation and so much more for our communities.

And I’m certainly not alone. Our current staff and board exemplify the broadest range of skills the organization has seen in its 25-year history and a deep set of relationships to match.
