Alliance Welcomes Ricardo Perez as Coalition Organizer

The Alliance is excited to welcome Ricardo Perez as a Coalition Organizer.

Ricardo was born and raised in Mexico and moved to the United States in 2004. Ricardo has more than 10 years of experience working in the non-profit sector alongside community on issues that disproportionately impact immigrants and people of color. More recently, Ricardo helped to lead the Suburban Hennepin Housing Coalition which, with the help of organized community, was able to pass ordinances in multiple cities to protect and produce unsubsidized housing; and create tenant protections.

“When I started organizing through the Suburban Hennepin Housing Coalition, I got to work with The Alliance and met their staff and network,” Ricardo says. “That was a powerful moment for me, when I realized that there are people out there who feel as passionately and as responsible as I do about systemic changes that would greatly impact folks who have been historically and disproportionately affected by housing and other issues. Being an organizer is not an easy task, but being connected with people who understand the work, the issues, and who care about inclusivity and equity makes it a lot easier — and exciting.”

Ricardo is an alumni of CURA’s Neighborhood Now program and the Wilder Foundation Community Equity Pipeline cohort. He loves his family, art and the resiliency and creativity of humanity.
