An invitation from our Executive Director

As the year comes to a close, I’d like to take a moment to thank you for helping make 2024 a year of power, presence, and mobilization in the Twin Cities, and invite you to join us by supporting the work ahead here at The Alliance.

There is no doubt that we face a challenging political landscape that will require all of us to keep showing up with resilience, resistance, and our own blueprints for a more equitable future. Fortunately, The Alliance has been meeting moments of threat and opportunity with the power of coalition organizing for more than 30 years, and we’re not stopping anytime soon.

This year, our coalitions helped secure significant victories by facilitating deep and sustained collaboration among local organizations led by, and rooted in, communities of color. Together, we:

  • secured funding to fight displacement along the Blue Line Extension in North Minneapolis,

  • stood up for renters across Minnesota by passing bills defending the right to organize and to make rental applications more accessible for all

  • passed a plan to speed up Metro Transit’s adoption of electric busses, explicitly prioritizing environmental justice communities and new Bus Rapid Transit Lines

  • advocated for the state of Minnesota to strengthen its support for starting and growing small businesses through the Healthy Business Framework

In 2025, we are focusing on strategies that build solidarity and abundance across four key areas: equitable housing, anti-displacement, environmental justice, and economic justice. Together, we can continue to change public policy and shift prevailing narratives in ways that directly benefit Black, Indigenous and people of color communities.
