ICE Out of MN! Alliance statement on federal occupation

At the Alliance, we stand unequivocally with immigrants, refugees, and all of our community members being targeted by the current ICE occupation of the Twin Cities.

Minnesotans are being violently displaced from their homes and separated from their families by ICE. Our constitutional rights are being violated. Local businesses are closing and cultural corridors are empty. Public transit riders are being abducted based on the color of their skin. Our children cannot safely access school or healthcare. Tens of thousands of families are sheltering in place, unable to get to work safely to earn money to make rent.

The Alliance remains steadfast in our mission to build power across the intersections of geography, race, culture, and issues in the Twin Cities region to eliminate systems of oppression and advance our collective liberation. Together, we are advocating for an eviction moratorium and emergency rental assistance through the Equity in Place and Housing Justice League coalitions, and we will be closed on Friday as we help organize ICE Out of Minnesota Day of Truth and Freedom.

Take action

Join us this Friday, January 23rd, as we join the statewide general strike and march: ICE Out of Minnesota Day of Truth and Freedom.  Sign the pledge to join the strike, and sign the MN Small Business Sign on Letter.

Alliance members meet the moment

In the face of rapidly escalating attacks, we see our local power growing by the day. We have never been more proud of our staff, board, coalition partners, and member organizations as they step up to meet this moment.

  • The Native American Community Development Institute (NACDI), has organized a community hub for art making, protectors, and organizing.
  • The West Side Community Organization (WSCO) launched the Hummingbird Initiative, with shared immigration resources, legal support, and rapid response networks.
  • Pueblos de Lucha y Esperanza is on the ground providing direct community support to immigrants
  • Jewish Community Action, The Alliance, and over 60 organizations are coming together via the Democracy Defense Table, a statewide coalition working together to protect democracy, resist authoritarianism, and strengthen civil society through coordination, communication, and collective action.
