Star Tribune: Housing advocates accuse Met Council of laxity in affordable housing

The Alliance is working with several member groups, including the Housing Justice Center, the Sierra Club, and All Parks Alliance for Change, to urge the Metropolitan Council to stand up for affordable homes in the Twin Cities. Although the Met Council has expressed an expectation that more affordable housing will be generated in the metro area, they are choosing not to fight for affordability in one of the region’s largest redevelopment projects, the 427-acre site of the Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant (TCAAP) in Arden Hills, which was purchased by Ramsey County in 2013. Unless developers maximize the potential for affordable housing at TCAAP, Arden Hills is set to meet less than 2% of its affordable housing goal for 2020.
